1 Bedroom Apt
Living Room The room is very long. At one end is the open concept kitchen and bar. The opposite end has the only windows - a large south facing window and a large full length balcony window and door.
Originally the walls were taupe throughout the whole apartment with white details. The broadloom is also taupe. The client needed to have their exercise equipment in this room and they also like to entertain.
Solutions
To create the illusion that the living room is wider with a dark feature wall. The colours chosen were very neutral - neither warm nor cool. The charcoal wall is balanced with the pale gray walls, leaving the white trim and doors as they were.
The exercise are was treated like a separate area with its own rug and isolated by chairs and tables. The kitchen has a bar height divider that will have 2 bar stools for guests or for snacking.

north wall
These photos where taken at the time of the painting. Unfortunately the project was not complete. New furniture was ordered - L-shaped charcoal sofa, sofa table and side table. Some art was not yet hung.
south wall
TV wall - in the before photo some of the furniture was about to be moved so it looks a bit messy and does not reflect the owner's work. The original set up was good but needed to be improved.
My focus was making the TV blend in with the art wall. A companion table is to be placed beside the TV - to house a sofa blanket and all the TV products.

Bathroom
Painting the room a warm Cranberry was the best solution. It is welcoming and restful - helping with the cooler aspect of the white bath tiles
The shower curtain was very dominant and luckily the floor tiles had hints of Cranberry and yellow along with the black slate & the dark countertop.

Looking at the bathroom from the kitchen and living room - the warm colour is quite cheerful. Some of this colour was incorporated into the kitchen as well.
Kitchen
The kitchen is open concept with a bar that opens to the Living Room.
2 bar stools have been purchased.
Solutions
2 bar stools have been purchased.
Solutions
- The kitchen needed to be reorganised. The cabinets are now more functional.
- Colours were pulled form the other rooms. They were then glazed. The dominate colour is the same as in the living room feature wall and pulls the 2 rooms together as you enter the apartment.
- A mural was used to distract the eye from the products and to make them part of the design. The towel dispenser and the stainless steel appliances look much better against the colours and the pattern of the Mondrian inspired mural.
- The client owns a number of tiles that we used in the back splash so the mural is partially 3 dimensional. The large dark square over the sink in to hold a modern stainless steel draining board.
Bedroom
As the Living room is primarily for entertaining and exercise, it was decided to have the bedroom as a multifunctional room as well. The dining table serves as a desk during the day and then turns back into a dining table as needed. The kitchen's bar table offers the client a place to eat casually on a daily basis.
The bed is not prominent in this design and therefore was presented more as a daybed.

Solutions
- In a dark room, the walls had to be a light colour that worked well with the art, furniture and wood.
- The Daybed functions as a sofa or reading area during the day. New pillow covers are not yet purchased. More art can be hung above the bed.crown molding was introduced to hide the imperfections where the wall and ceiling meet.
- A faux crown molding border runs around the room to hide imperfections - about 3".
- The same trim detail was used around the window to give it more prominence and to brighten the room further. It compliments the venetian blinds.
- From the Living room you only see the dining table and the art. The rest is private.
